Emile Abraham

Blessed with lightning-fast speed, it didn’t take Emile Abraham long to get the hang of bicycle racing despite being a native of Trinidad and Tobago – a country where cricket and football (soccer) dominate the sports scene. Dubbed “The Trinidad Torpedo,” Abraham is a nine-time national road race champion and the 2003 bronze medalist at the “B” World Championships.

At the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro last year, Abraham won a silver medal in the road race which finished in a field sprint. He capped the season with a memorable victory in the final race on the National Race Calendar, a 50-mph downhill plunge to the finish on the streets of Atlanta, his adopted hometown in the United States. It was his second victory at that race (the other came in 2005), and the fourth time he has finished either first or second. Based on these achievements he was honored as Athlete of the Year 2007 by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC).

In 2008, Abraham hopes to qualify for the Olympics Games in Beijing – be it on the road or track – and continue to be a contender for Team Type 1 on the National Race Calendar (NRC) circuit.

He and his wife, Rachael, who also a “Trini,” reside in Atlanta.
