Formerly a competitive distance runner in high school and college, Adam Driscoll has proven himself to be an extraordinary athlete on the bike as well, and he considers himself a cyclist at heart.
He first heard about Team Type 1 several years ago during a 4-month fixed-gear bike ride across the United States aimed at raising awareness and money for diabetes and helping disabled children in Kenya. This ride was featured in an award-winning documentary called Adventures for the Cure: The Doc. Intrigued by the prospect of talking to other cyclists with type 1 diabetes, Driscoll joined Team Type 1 and competed in the 2008 Race Across America (RAAM). His team finished fourth out of 9 teams (4-man division), while being on the first team to complete it riding fixed-gear bikes. That makes 2 fixed-gear rides across the country for Driscoll. Quite an accomplishment! But he wants more.
