With a background in exercise science and nutrition, Daniel Schneider was a perfect fit for his role as the cook and nutritionist for Team Type 1’s Race Across America (RAAM) crew in 2008 and 2009. Being involved this way made him feel like he was “a part of the action.” After winning his first competitive race in 2008 and competing in about 20 more during 2009, Schneider is now ready to take his involvement with Team Type 1 to the next level as an Elite cyclist.
Schneider is open about his condition. “It helps to tell people about it. It gives you an opportunity to talk about it and help people understand what’s going on.” As a member of Team Type 1, his goals are to win as many races as possible in 2010 and to work toward being RAAM-ready. He also wants to become more involved in his local diabetes support groups and to work with kids to share the message that so much is still possible with diabetes: “It doesn’t really change what your goals are.”
When he’s not racing, Schneider can be found riding around Denver on his road bike, hanging out with his dog, Max, and seizing all of the “play opportunities” that Colorado has to offer.
