Coming from an athletic background that included soccer and lacrosse, Tim Powell was used to his share of hard knocks. But it took a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes to make him realize that he could drastically modify his daily activities in order to properly manage his disease and still continue to enjoy the talent that made him an elite-level cyclist.

Being a part of Team Type 1 has improved Powell’s biking performance and the management of his diabetes. When he’s free to do as he pleases, Powell can often be found cooking, spending time with his wife, Nancy, or playing with his 7-year-old daughter, Anna.
