Martijn Verschoor-NED, 26, won stage two of the Tour de Beauce in June, and finished in the Top-10 at stages in the Tour of China and the Tour of South Africa in 2011. He has continued to improve in his second full year at Team Type 1-SANOFI, and through managing his type 1 diabetes effectively is a strong advocate for the team.
No other rider on Team Type 1-Sanofi embodies the message of good control like Martijn. He has learned to manage his diabetes in ways that keep him in the race, at the front, day in and day out. In the rains of Belgium in February, on the hot summery plains of France in August. In three trips to China and spot-job duty in Italy, Turkey and South Africa, he takes what the day brings and he makes good use of every inch at his disposal. With his sprint win in Canada, he confirmed his bona fides and found the affirmation we all knew was coming: Martijn Verschoor is a born bike racer and he is on his was to the top.
