MALCOLM GOGGIN

  • County Wicklow, Ireland
  • Age: 40
  • Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at age 37

“There is no limit to what we can do,” Malcom believes. “If we all work together, we can achieve anything.”

Malcom was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007. An optimist like no other, he decided to prove that life does not stop after diagnosis – and joined Team Type 2. He first heard about the team while assisting in the management of Team Pinarello during their second and first place wins in the Tour of Ireland. Instantly he was attracted to the idea of a cycling team focused on diabetes.

The ability to use sport as a form of medicine has been a very powerful driving force for Malcolm. His major goal in life is to race at the highest possible level for as long as possible, and to ultimately become a long term member of the team in its proliferation into Europe.

Malcolm calls himself a “real, genuine person – the life and soul of the party.” Regardless of having diabetes, he has continued to live his life to the fullest potential. As far as he’s concerned, life is too short for anything else. When he’s not cycling, you can likely find him traveling with his family – or just catching a flick at the cinema.
