TIM DOLAN

  • Ft. Collins, CO
  • Age: 58
  • Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at age 52

During a routine physical in 2002, Tim Dolan discovered he had diabetes – and that his A1C was so highly elevated he needed to take immediate action to get it under control.

He thought taking diabetes pills would be a sure fix, neglecting to make any changes in diet and exercise. It wasn’t until he was diagnosed with complications from uncontrolled blood sugar that Tim got the message that this disease was not going to go down without a fight.

After having bypass surgery in April 2007, Tim incorporated a new – and healthy – diet into his regimen, along with exercise and insulin. Now, as a cyclist on Team Type 2, Tim is thrilled that not only has he taken charge of his diabetes, but that it’s been a catalyst for him to get in shape and live a healthier lifestyle. And he knows that being part of Team Type 2 has been a huge motivator.

Tim originally heard about the team during the Tour de Cure in Longmont, Colo., and feels grateful to be a part of it himself. “Joining the team,” he says, “has offered me the opportunity to not only be healthier, but to spread the word that diabetes is just another challenge to be met.”

In addition to cycling, Tim is also a fan of yoga, tennis, reading, community service, and spending time with his family.
